Federico Trucco was born in Rosario, Argentina, in 1977. The son of Víctor Trucco and María Cristina Fossaroli, both first generation university graduates descending from Italian immigrants that settled as farmers in the central-south region of Santa Fe province. Federico is a biochemist with a Ph.D. degree in Crop Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Since a teenager, he was fascinated by the advancement of biotechnology and its impact on agriculture, a fascination he shared with his father – an influential farmer who championed technological advancements in the sector. While Federico was initiating his graduate studies, Víctor Trucco together with Gustavo Grobocopatel, Rogelio Fogante and some other friends started Bioceres, then a project management firm in the ag-biotech space. Federico joined Bioceres immediately out of school, in 2005. He originally joined the group as a research leader for one of its R&D projects. He then helped organize and initially run Bioceres’ biotech center, a state-of-the-art technology incubator called INDEAR. In 2011 he became the first formal CEO of Bioceres.
Bioceres is today an ag-biotech Flag Carrier for the Latin America region, operating as a business platform across multiple technology segments, with BIOX listed in the New York Stock Exchange, its main subsidiary. Federico is the CEO of BIOX since March 2019. In 2018 Federico was recognized with the Konex award for business innovation for the period 2008-2018, one of Argentina´s most prestigious leadership awards. He was also recognized with the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Argentina in 2019.
